Have you ever seen a person walking along the beach holding a metal detector when you are enjoying the wind and sunshine in the beach? You may think it is too foolish to detecting along the beach because you think the reward would be very little or the effort taken would be in vain. Well, you are wrong in this case. The metal detectorists can not only find coins, but also find some valuable rings and necklaces. It is a rewarding and funny hobby.
Equipment
The first and foremost question will be your metal detector selection. You should choose a detector that can work both above the sand and under the water. So it is better to be a waterproof metal detector. There are entry level and premium and superior waterproof from http://www.detectorall.com/. You can choose one that is perfect for you and your beach detecting trip.
Where to hunt?
As we all know, the beach can be so wide that if cannot locate the right area to hunt, most of our time would be wasted. Well, hold on just a minute before you grab your detector and head out onto the sand. The easiest answer to this question is where there is the crowd, where you are going to hunt. That is to point out the place where people would mostly lie or putting their blankets and towels. Most people have the habit of putting their valuable belongings into their blankets or towels before they go to swim in the water. While some of them would forget to take them as they are leaving. So their rings or necklaces would be left behind in the sand. Another area to hunt is the water area near the dry sand, where people prefer playing. And the volleyball court could be a choice, too.
When to hunt?
You may think that it is most crowded in the beach on the weekend. Well you are right. But every detectorist knows that. So there would be a detectorist crowd on the Sunday afternoon and the competition would be too severe. Well when you take a deep consideration, you will find that it is better to detect on the Friday evening. The competitors are less and there is a collection of 5 days lost waiting for you to hunt. And on weekend, you can do what other detectorists do on Friday night, better right?
How to hunt?
To maximize their finds with your detector, you should walk slowly and wave the detectors coil, in a slow steady sweep from side to side, always keep the coil close to and level to the ground. The slower you wave the coil the deeper the targets it will detect. The rule of thumb is a four second sweep from left to right and back again. Most coils have a search pattern that is cone shaped. So you might be searching with a 8 inch diameter at the surface but 10 inches down you are really only searching with a 2 inch search diameter. This is one of the main reasons it’s so hard to clean out any productive area.
Wish you good luck!
